those that have erupted in historical times but are now quiet called dormant or inactive

INACTIVE VOLCANOES

• Volcanoes that are not currently active

• it can be dormant or extinct or of otherwise uncertain inactive volcanic status.

EXTINCT VOLCANOES

• has not had an eruption for at least 10,000 years

• is not expected to erupt again in a comparable time scale of the future.

DORMANT VOLCANOES

• is an active volcano that is not erupting, but supposed to erupt again.
